Barista/Cafe Staff (FT or PT)

JOB SUMMARY:  Barista/Café staff are responsible for providing excellent customer service, producing quality beverages, serving baked goods, and accurately completing transactions using our point of sale system.  Barista/Café staff are also responsible for completing assigned production lists and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the cafe. In addition, they may be called upon to stock, maintain, and clean Deli/Café sales floor and service areas as well as receive orders and maintain all Deli/Café storage areas. All Deli staff are expected to assist in achieving departmental and storewide goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service

  • Provide prompt, courteous, knowledgeable customer service.
  • Offer samples, suggestions for purchase, and nutrition information to customers.
  • Direct customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to the appropriate staff member.
  • Assist customers with finding items in the store.
  • Wear approved attire and nametag while on duty.
  • Maintain knowledge of storewide initiatives and the benefits of ownership.  Assist customers with becoming an owner when applicable.
  • Effectively respond to departmental phone calls and develop a thorough understanding of Eastside's phone systems
  • Know and understand Eastside's policies and products in order to answer customer questions clearly, completely and concisely.

Department Maintenance

  • Maintain well-stocked and clean service counter and café.
  • Participate in evaluating, updating, and creating beverage recipes.
  • Clean, stock, and support café sales floor and service areas as directed.
  • Check sell by dates. Record out of date losses, sampling, and store transfers following established procedures.
  • Receive and stock food and paper deliveries following established procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining walk-in cooler, freezer, and store room organization.
  • Communicate with Kitchen Leads and Deli Manager regarding production and equipment needs.
  • Ensure proper use of all production tools and equipment.
  • Wash and store production tools and equipment following established procedures.
  • Ensure floors are clean and safe. Remove garbage and recycling according to schedule.
  • Clean equipment according to schedule or as directed.
  • Ring customers' purchases efficiently and accurately.  Use the correct prices and codes, and ring items under the correct department and membership number. Know and understand Eastside's procedures for handling all forms of payment.
  • Balance a cash drawer at the end of each shift.  Follow security procedures for handling cash and other forms of tender.  Follow Eastside's procedures for reporting problems and/or discrepancies.
  • Follow security procedures for unruly customers, incapacitated customers, potential shoplifters, and quick change artists.
  • Follow proper shut-down and opening routines.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Deli Leads and Deli Manager.

 

Food Handling

  • Accurately execute all café recipes and prep as assigned.
  • Ensure freshness and quality by properly rotating prep and back stock.
  • Follow Eastside deli procedures and MN food safety rules at all times.
  • Assist sales floor staff as directed.
  • Prep and cook food only as assigned on production lists and directed by Leads and Deli Manager.

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the safety policies of the department and store, including the proper use of all equipment.
  • Follow work schedule as posted with regular, predictable attendance.
  • Attend all required department and storewide meetings and training sessions.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers throughout the store.
  • Adhere to store and department policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of management and staff structure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Deli manager and other managers.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous barista and/or juice bar experience preferred
  • Previous food handling experience
  • Previous natural foods experience

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and rotating
  • Prolonged standing and walking
  • Ability to lift and move 60 pounds frequently during a shift
  • Corrected vision to enable reading of small print
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts
  • Ability to occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions
  • Occasional contact with mold, allergens, garbage.
  • Clear spoken English and ability to accurately understand spoken voice
